If you're married to a Malaysian citizen, the Long-Term Social Visit Pass is the route — not MM2H. It's renewable, initially short and then longer, and you can apply for permission to work on it.
How it works
- Your Malaysian spouse sponsors the application.
- Initial passes are typically shorter, extending to longer terms as the marriage is established.
- You can apply for an endorsement permitting work — you don't need a separate Employment Pass once that's granted.
- Applications go through the Immigration Department, usually with an interview.

Spouses of Malaysian citizens have one of the more realistic paths to permanent residence, typically after a sustained period on the LTSVP. It remains discretionary, but it is a genuine route in a way that MM2H is not — new MM2H participants are explicitly ineligible for PR.
